Recently I’ve been tussling with gender. Nothing too insane, just the feelings of being a stick thin girl in “the city where no doctor needed, you might make a stallion.” I love myself. Intuitively I know when I’m not for someone. I am so expansive and flexible in the ways I can relate to folks and myself. So, I want to come out and say my gender: hater. If I am nothing else, I’m a hater. “I love the way it feels to be a hater! Something so sweet about thinking that you’re better!” I’m dedicated to having taste and preferences. Years ago, in a post long-deleted, I ranted about how an ex-boyfriend called me “particular” and you know what? Hell yeah. Here’s a non-exhaustive list of what I hate right now.
- Generative AI. All of it. I hate it for the environmental reasons; for the ethical reasons…apparently now for the psychosis reasons? I also keep hearing that Irish Tik Tok bc “whatever happened to having a think.” Another great video I’ve seen now is “my favorite generative AI is my brain!” I wear a helmet bc I love my brain. I love how different my loved ones brains are. It’s fun to develop compassion after you take a bad draft into a workable piece. Real writers hate AI!
- This is an honorable mention within this umbrella: I hate the co-star app. You don’t actually learn anything about astrology, you learn how a robot thinks about astrology. I guess that’s what people want; fortune cookie astrology. I simply do not. Grow up. Download TimePassages and learn something! Better yet, listen to real astrologers give readings. This is my fav, iykyk.
- Flags: this is a long-standing thing because I, of course support all people who want to represent their home countries. I am simply American and I’d sooner hurt someone than fly the American flag. I’m specifically talking about the 50ftx50ft TX flag I see driving to Alief from my home. Also all those “in those house we believe…” flags. This is nuanced but ew. I would rather have a meaningful conversation with someone than assume something about them based on a piece of polyester fraying in the wind in front of their home.
- Tyler Perry: There’s something to say for him being one of thee most famous drag personas. I would love to see Madea judge some Drag Race challenges; Tyler would never allow her, unfortunately. He has no writers; has a history of union busting. There are a lot of cases for reparations but I need reparations so that creative Black people can hire and cast Black people more than this fool.
- The normalization of pedophilia. I recently watched The Hunting Wives on Netflix. Spoiler alert: the main lady is literally a pedo! However this is not unique. Gossip Girl, Dawson’s Creek, Degrassi; all shows where there is at least one pedophile storyline. And these storylines aren’t like “omg here’s a predator!” the storylines are “isn’t Pacey (15 years old) so hot that his teacher (mid to late 30s) just can’t resist!” As a Pacey stan, absolutely not! I believe that children are our FUTURE, not our sneaky links! This is so pervasive that the president being a pedophile is now just a lil clickbait headline. Absolutely sickening.
- Israel, the New York Times, the ADL and all other parties who are perpetuating a highly publicized genocide in the name of??? Unclear to me. I say this all the time but I know people from Baltimore County, Maryland who gave up their college dreams to enlist in a foreign army. Can’t imagine another country where folks can do that and get away with it.
- Car culture: Thanks to my grandfather, I have a car. I was also in no less than 3 car accidents before I learned to drive. I only recently associated my anti-car sentiments with the car accidents. I’m not annoying like those white people; Ford motor company has sustained my family. However, I simply can’t abide by this machinery that systematically puts people into debt while making it more difficult for us to enjoy nature in our cities. I live next door to a highway and they have recently razed me (and my dog’s) favorite street in favor of additional highway lanes. I’m going to take a wild guess that the additional lane will not alleviate traffic, but maybe I’m just a hater.
